10 Reasons to Move to Fort Collins, Colorado

Table of Contents

Although Fort Collins has recently slipped on its ranking, it is continually ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States. If you’re still not sure if this is the right city for you, check out these 10 Reasons to Move to Fort Collins, Colorado.

Breweries

One of the main reasons people decide to move to Fort Collins is because they want to have an amazing lifestyle. Part of that lifestyle is the rich brewery scene and the lifestyle that comes with that, the microbrew capital of the world as we like to call it. We have some really fun microbreweries. For example, New Belgium, the godfather, got its start here. Odell’s is a powerhouse of the microbreweries and has an amazing patio. But don’t stop with the giants. We also have Coopersmith’s, Equinox, Zwei, Horse and Dragon, Funkwerks and MANY more that deserve a visit!

Skiing Opportunities within a Couple Hours

We are NOT a ski town. BUT, we’re very close to some amazing ski areas. You can get to Eldora within a couple hours! If you want to add an extra hour but get some WORLD CLASS skiing, you can head up I70 to Keystone, Copper, Breckenridge and Vail. OR, drive up the Poudre Canyon and hit up Steamboat.

If you are a BIG skiier/snowboarder, you’ll want to check out the annual ski passes, here.

The Music Scene

We’re very fortunate to have a philanthropist in town, The Bohemian Foundation, that pours money, time and effort into the music and art scene in Fort Collins. Whether you go to The Aggie, Washington’s, The Armory or check out FoCoMX, Taste of Fort Collins or maybe just a Thursday Night Concert in Old Town Fort Collins, the music is endless.

We are also SUPER lucky that one of the BEST VENUES IN THE WORLD is only an hour or so away in the Red Rocks Amphitheater. We’re blessed with some amazing music opportunities.

Proximity to DIA and Denver Metro

Many people don’t want to live in a major metro, but they want to be close to a major metro which is another reason people move to Fort Collins, Windsor or Loveland. We live in a gig economy where people want to be able to work remotely. They want to have an amazing lifestyle, but still want (and need) to make a big metro incomes. Being close to DIA and an hour away from Denver allows individuals that opportunity.

OR, if you LOVE your professsional sports, Denver has ’em all! The Broncos, Avalanche, Rockies, Nuggets, Rapids. All 5 major sports teams are located an hour away from Fort Collins and Northern Colorado.

A Sense of Community

Although constantly growing, Fort Collins is still considered a small city or large town. It’s a wonderful feeling being a part of a warm and friendly town. People want to keep and make Fort Collins an amazing place to live. That is why you see people pouring into the community and keeping it a safe, clean place to be. It is pretty obvious why so many people want to live here.

Parks and Bike Trails

We’re very fortunate to have some amazing parks and bike trails in our town. Fort Collins has more than 285+ miles of bike trails throughout the town. Also, we’ve got some of the best parks, such as Spring Canyon Park, Fossil Creek Park, and Twin Silos Park. The best thing about these parks is that you can get to them from bike trails with minimal on-road biking.

Stay safe, stay on the trails, but get everywhere in town!

The Cleanliness is Superb!

One of the best things about Fort Collins, is how clean it is. Sometimes I feel like we don’t appreciate it enough until we have someone from out of town tell us how incredibly clean Fort Collins is. From medians, curbs, alleyways, Fort Collins doesn’t skip on the details, it pays attention to them.

Don’t be a litter bug, or you’ll quickly be chased out of town 😉

The Safety of the Town and Public Schools

The safety of the community and our public schools are also a big reason why people choose to move here. Our schools are very sought after because we’re a very well-funded public school system. We have the arts programs, physical education, drama clubs that are well funded and available to our youth.

On Friday evenings, you can walk through the middle of Old Town Fort Collins with your family and feel extremely safe. It’s easy to take it for granted, but we are very lucky! You’ll definitely feel safe and relaxed if you move to Fort Collins.

Old Town Square

Fort Collins has some amazing history. It is intentional about preserving that history. But if you were to talk about the history of Fort Collins and you DIDN’T mention Old Town Square, you’ve failed. Whether mentioning how Disneyland derived inspiration from some of the buildings or talk about the underground tunnels made during prohibition, Old Town has NO LACK of history. On top of everything, it is INCREDIBLY well maintained and cared for.

If you come by Fort Collins, you will, of course, have to visit Old Town Square and Downtown Fort Collins.

Lifestyle

The biggest reason, without a doubt, to move to Fort Collins is definitely the lifestyle. Fort Collins is the perfect place if you want to be somewhere where you can get to a beautiful mountain in less than 20 minutes and enjoy an amazing hike, rafting down the Poudre, or biking along Spring Creek trail. There are so many opportunities to enjoy your free time outdoors and live a healthier lifestyle. But don’t be TOO healthy. After that long bike ride or hike, you’ll have to go find yourself a patio and enjoy one of our many breweries and 300 days of sunshine.
